National Grid Modernization
(In Progress)
The comprehensive upgrade plan for island-type power systems focuses on optimizing clean power structure, updating units, and modernizing operations and maintenance to improve power supply reliability and resilience, laying the foundation for subsequent new energy access and digitalization scenarios.
SEYCHELLES
Breaking the Bottleneck of Island Energy Development
Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands, faces significant power system challenges: reliance on traditional energy sources, insufficient supply stability, and low operational efficiency. Independent power grids between islands, aging turbines with declining performance, and weak resilience during extreme weather compound these issues. The country's high-carbon energy structure also conflicts with global decarbonization trends and the imperative to protect fragile island ecosystems. In response to Seychelles' national energy transition plan, Radiant Ridge Energy (Seychelles), in partnership with local power authorities, launched a comprehensive island power system upgrade. The project aims to build a more reliable, cleaner, and smarter energy infrastructure through systematic transformation.

Core Goals
Focused on improved reliability, reduced carbon footprint, and transparent operations and maintenance, the project directly addresses critical power infrastructure challenges.
Improved Power Supply Reliability
Through unit upgrades and grid optimization, the power supply reliability rate for the main island of Seychelles and key inhabited islands will be increased from the current 95% to over 99.5%, reducing power outages caused by equipment failures and extreme weather, and ensuring stable electricity supply for residents and core industries such as tourism.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
Optimizing the clean power supply structure, gradually reducing the proportion of traditional fossil fuels such as diesel, and reserving interfaces for future integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Over the entire project lifecycle, it is expected to reduce the carbon intensity of the Seychelles power system by 20%.
Transparent Management
The platform integrates real-time sensor monitoring with intelligent diagnostics to provide continuous condition monitoring, proactive fault warnings, and remote troubleshooting capabilities. All operations and maintenance activities are tracked and analyzed for optimal performance.

Building reliable, clean and smart power system for Seychelles
The project's phased implementation strategy addresses the challenges of dispersed island geography and diverse power systems through comprehensive planning, sequential island-by-island deployment, and iterative improvements—all while maintaining uninterrupted power supply.
Phase 1 (Implementation and Pilot Program)
Phase one targets islands with concentrated electricity demand, beginning with Mahe (the main island) and Praslin as pilot sites. Work includes assessment and replacement of aging generation assets alongside deployment of digital operations infrastructure for real-time performance monitoring.
Phase 2 (Grid Optimization and Clean Energy Integration)
Upgrade inter-island grid interconnections to improve power dispatch flexibility across islands. Pilot sites will include infrastructure for integrating renewable energy sources, with operational plans developed for coordinating wind and solar generation with existing power systems.

CURRENT PROGRESS
Overall Implementation Progressing, Milestones Released in Phases
The project has completed preliminary research and overall design, entering the implementation phase:
Pilot Site Development: Equipment assessment on Mahe Island is complete, with procurement underway for the first generation of replacement units. Installation and commissioning are scheduled for completion in 2026.
Digital Platform Deployment: The core data collection module has been developed and is currently undergoing integration testing with Seychelles' local power authority to ensure compatibility with existing system parameters.
Progress Transparency: A structured reporting framework—monthly progress updates and quarterly milestone reviews—has been established to provide regular updates to the Seychelles government and public stakeholders.
